What does Budokon mean?
BU-DO-KON: BU = warrior, DO = way, KON = spirit
Full translation: The way of the warrior spirit.
What is Budokon + why does Emily teach it?
Budokon (BDK) is a mixed movement system that integrates yoga, martial arts, calisthenics, animal locomotion, mobility, and meditation. It’s a challenging practice, not just physically.
Created by Cameron Shayne, Budokon changes the way you move by changing the way you think. The practice emphasizes the importance of transitions, and the focus is not so much on what you do, but more on the way you do it. One of BDK’s primary philosophies: The way you do anything is the way you do everything.
Directors of Budokon, Cameron and Melayne Shayne, have made a massive impact on the way Emily approaches her life and her movement practice. Emily’s goal is to share Cameron and Melayne’s teachings, and spread the BDK love with her community.
Community
One of Emily’s greatest strengths is her ability to foster a sense of community on and off the mat. By creating a safe and welcoming class environment and hosting community-building workshops, she leads with an open mind and inclusive spirit.
In addition to group classes, Emily teaches private classes through Zoom, as well as one-on-one in-person sessions.
Workshops
Co-creator of the Warrior Women Workshop, she has taught classes and workshops at Flow in Color, Lolë, Epic Races, Persian Students Association at the University of Michigan, Red Yoga, Shut Up and Box, and in partnership with Athleta.
Emily’s workshops range from strength-based poses and transitions to meditation, self-reflection, personal development, and of course, Budokon! Depending on your interests and goals, she caters the session to the needs of you and your group.
